Recurrent Pregnancy Loss

While most pregnancies are uneventful, pregnancy loss occurs in about 20% of pregnancies. This number increases up to 50% when a woman is over 40 years of age.

  • 85% of miscarriages happen during the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy and are usually related to abnormalities in the fetus.
  • About 10% of miscarriages may result from problems in the mother, possibly related to uterine, hormonal, infectious or immunological abnormalities
  • The remaining 5% are the result of unknown causes

Fortunately many couples have a good chance of achieving and maintaining a successful pregnancy.

"Most fertility procedures take several visits, a variety of physically exhausting tests, and you're on an emotional roller coaster. But I can offer this advice - be patient, open-minded, and remain hopeful as best you can. Recognize the value of the support, knowledge, and expertise of your physician and healthcare team. For me, these people made all the difference in the world."
