Ovarian Hormone Function Testing
Hormones take their cue from the pituitary gland and are released into the bloodstream to control growth and development, reproduction, and sexual characteristics.
- Hormones influence cells and the metabolism of glucose, protein and fat throughout the body.
- Two specific hormones follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Estradiol provide us with information about the quality of your eggs and how your ovaries are functioning.
- If levels of either hormone look high it indicates a lower number of eggs and a reduced chance of becoming pregnant.
- This testing is done on day 3 of your period.
Other hormones may be tested, including prolactin, thyroid stimulating hormone, and testosterone.
