Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
While most pregnancies are uneventful, pregnancy loss occurs in about 20% of pregnancies. This number increases up to 50% when a woman is over 40 years of age.
- 85% of miscarriages happen during the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy and are usually related to abnormalities in the fetus.
- About 10% of miscarriages may result from problems in the mother, possibly related to uterine, hormonal, infectious or immunological abnormalities
- The remaining 5% are the result of unknown causes
Fortunately many couples have a good chance of achieving and maintaining a successful pregnancy.
