Uterine Cavity and Tubal Patency Testing
There are two commonly used diagnostic tools for examining a woman's uterus and/or fallopian tubes for abnormalities of the uterus, tumours of the uterine cavity, scar tissue or blockages of the fallopian tubes.
It's essential to know the condition of the fallopian tubes - if they're completely blocked, sperm will be unable to reach the egg to fertilize it. Sperm must have access to the egg and able to reach the open end of the fallopian tube after fertilization. If the fallopian tubes are damaged but not completely blocked, sperm may be able to reach the egg, but the early embryo is more likely to be trapped in the damaged tube.
